Resumen:
The Middle-Pleistocene glaciations in the Southern Hemisphere are generally poorly represented, mainly resulting from a lack of dated outcrops. A sequence of glaciations has been identified in the Patagonian Andes, between the Great Patagonian Glaciation (ca. 1 Ma) and the Last Glacial Maximum. Similar evidence, although less well preserved, has been found in the Central Andes, New Zealand, and Tasmania. The Middle- Pleistocene glaciations were developed under the 100 ka astronomical cycles arising from changes in Earth’s orbit. The use of cosmogenic dating techniques will, without doubt, greatly improve the chronology of glaciations during the Middle Pleistocene in the near future.
