Resumen:
Lago Fagano represents the southernmost lake of the Earth. It is elongated E-W for a length of 105 km, with an average wideness of8 km, and a maximum depth of 210 m. It is located in the external part of the Andean cordillera where Meso-Cenozoic volcanic metase-diments of the marginal basin of Rocas Verdes and terrigenous sediments of the Magallanes foredeep basin, outcrop. The lake is a pull-apart basin developed during the Cenozoic time along the principal deformation zone of the Magallanes-Fagnano left lateral continentaltransform fault. In the lake area sedimentary lacustrine and glacial facies related to the Last Glacial event are present.
