The Evaluation of Impact Toughness of Propylene Polymers

The present work is concerned with the evaluation of the impact toughness of propylene polymers, which basically differ in the mechanical behavior. Investigations were performed on an extrusion grade homopolymer as molded (Cuyolem 1102KX, PP1) and after being thermally treated at 150ºC (Cuyolem 1102KX-150, PP2), on one impact grade block copolymer (Cuyolem 2300PX, PP3) and on one random copolymer used in piping (Vestolem P9421, PP4). Conventional ASTM impact measurements, fracture mechanics test under dynamic conditions and static stress-strain experiments, were carried out in order to evaluate the behavior of the materials.
