Resumen:
Hybrids sols from tetraetoxysilane (TEOS), methyltrietoxysilane (MTES) and 3-(metacryloxypropyl) trimethoxysilane (γ-MPS) were prepared in acid medium at different TEOS/TMES and TEOS/γ-MPS ratios. An organic monomer, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), was free-radical co-polymerised with γ-MPS, the chosen initiator was 2,2’-azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN). Coatings were obtained by dipping at different withdrawal rates and heat-treated between 150 and 450 ºC depending on the composition. Rods and slide of sodalime glass were coated and mechanically tested using 4-points flexure and ring-on-ring tests. Amber beer bottles with and without SnO2 pre-coating were also coated and proved using the normal standards of hollow glass: scratch resistance, sliding angle, and internal pressure. Mechanical behaviour of the coated bottles is analysed on the light of possible industrial application.
