Resumen:
Urea-formaldehyde microcapsules containing dicyclopentadiene (healing agent) were prepared by in situ polymerization in an oil-in-water emulsion, with the aim of using them for self-healing polymers. The microcapsules must have strength enough to maintain their properties during the processing of the material but must be opened when damage occur. The size, morphology and quality of the resulting capsules were optimized by appropriate selection different parameters, such as agitation rate (in the range of 350?700 rpm), reaction time, quantity of healing agent, type of agitation and drying process of the final products. The microcapsules were characterized by Optical Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Diferential Scanning Calorimetry, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy and Thermogravimetric Analysis.
