Resumen:
A Level III PSA has been performed for the inherently safe CAREM-25 nuclear power station, as a requirement for licensing according to Argentinean regulations. The CAREM-25 project is still at a detailed design stage, therefore only internal events have been considered, and a representative site has been assumed for dose estimations.Several conservative hypothesis have been formulated, but even so an overall core melt frequency of 2.3E-5 per reactor year has been obtained. The risk estimations comply with the regulations. The risk values obtained are compared to the 700 MWe nuclear power plant Atucha II PSA results, showing an effective risk reduction not only in the severe accident probability but also in the consequence component of the risk estimation.
