Chorrillo Malo 2 (Upper Santa Cruz Basin, Patagonia, Argentina): new data on its stratigraphic sequence.

Chorrillo Malo 2 is a rockshelter located in the Upper Santa Cruz Basin (Patagonia, Argentina), very close to the Andean range. Its occupation by hunter-gatherers begins about 9,700 years BP with evidence suggesting early human exploration phase of the area. Its stratigraphic sequence extends for about 8,000 years. New chronological data from recent excavations are presented. The new information suggests that the reason for the reoccupation of the rockshelter between about 6,200 and 5,500 years BP is the additional shelter that it provided from the prevailing winds. Data on the morphological change of the rockshelter, along with preliminary sedimentological, lithic and faunal data are presented.
