Volvariella volvacea (Pluteaceae, Agaricales), presencia de un hongo con potencial biotecnológico en la Argentina

Background and aims: Volvariella volvacea is a tropical and subtropical species, known from Southeast Asia, Europe, North America, Central America, and there are isolated records from Africa, Oceania and northern South America, but there is no previous register of this species from Argentina. The aim of this work is to describe and illustrate V. volvacea from Argentina. M&M: The specimens were collected in Corrientes. For their identification and description, they were analyzed macro and microscopically following the traditionally methodology. The materials were deposited in the mycological collection of the CTES herbarium.Results: This species is characterized by its large pileus (50?100 mm), with dark brown surface and abundant fissures that reveal the grayish context among them, its humicolous habit, and 6?11 µm long. spores. Conclusions: Considering that V. volvacea is widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions of the world, its presence in the north of Argentina is an indicator that it could be exploited through its intensive cultivation in waste products characteristic of northern Argentina, such as straw and rice husk, generating a novel product for the country.
