Waterborne polyurethanes have found an important niche in applications such as coatings and adhesives. The importance derives from the versatility of polyurethanes in general and the ecological advantage of being dispersed in acqueous media. In this work, biobased formulations are used: in one of them, the polyol is castor oil (CO), while in the other one, the macrodiol is a polycaprolactone diol (PCL), and in both cases the internal emulsifier is tartaric acid (TA), a byproduct of the winery industry. Using a simple blending technique, films were produced with different final properties dinamico-mechanical and optical that affected also the handling characteristics of the materials. Techniques such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, and contact angle were used in the characterization of the materials.
