Resumen:
Vegetable oils and its derived fatty acids are often used as alternatives to the traditional petroleum derived feedstock in the development of new bio-based polymers because of their low cost, availability and high chemical versatility. A novel paradigm that features a constant reshuffling of covalent cross-links by covalent exchange reactions permitting reorganization of the network topology and stress relief while maintaining the cross-linking density at a constant level has been recently proposed. These polymers were named "vitrimers" and their obtaining from bio-mass derived resources could lead to green polymeric materials with functional properties like shape memory, self-healing and reprocessability of great scientific and technological interest.
