Resumen:
The contamination of water currents by arsenic is a serious problem due to the health problems caused by this pollutant, for example lung and skin cancer1. This metal comes from natural and industrial sources and also from pesticides. For water remediation, biodegradable biopolymers such as chitosan, which has chelating properties, can be used. Furthermore, if the material has a phase of iron nano-oxides (MNP), additional advantages are added: these particles have high affinity for different arsenic species, the material becomes magnetic, so the adsorption/desorption could be activated by magnetic heating and once it was used, the nanocomposite could be easily removed by using a magnet. Thus, the aim of this work is to evaluate the performance of chitosan films, with and without magnetite nanoparticles, for the absorption of arsenic (V) from aqueous solutions.
