Resumen:
This Special Issue in Acta Oecologica contains research contributions presented in the Symposium ?Soil biodiversity for the sustainability of agroecosystems? held in the VI Binational Meeting on Ecology (18?23 September 2016, Puerto Iguazú, Argentina) organized by the ArgentineAssociation of Ecology (ASAE) and the Ecological Society of Chile (SOCECOL). Our aim is to bring together both theoretical and study cases contributions dealing with soil biodiversity, from microorganisms to macrofauna, that help us to answer the following triggering questions: How can soil ecology contribute to the sustainable management of soils? Is it reasonable to consider soil biodiversity as the root of sustainable agriculture? Is it possible to have production systems that contribute to the maintenance of soil biodiversity and ecosystem functioning? Why society does not pay enough attention to soil biodiversity? What can we do from soil ecology so that society understands the value of soil biodiversity?
