Fishes from Ramada Paso pond presented 84% of prevalence and a range of 1-31 isopods per fish while fishes from Aeroclub pond presented 82% of prevalence and 1-40 isopods per fish. Braga fluviatilis present a clearly annual cycle of maturation. The young cymothoid (stage I) recruitment was registered in fish between February to August and was absent in October. Anyway the male stages (III, IV and V) were abundant in this month. This was probably caused by the life-cycle and transmission of the isopods and by the behaviour of host. Fishes collected from Ramada Paso pond had shown a high prevalence of infection during the first period of study (1987), decreasing the following year. In fishes from Aeroclub pond the prevalence did not vary significantly during the two years. Prevalence and mean intensity of infection did not increase with body length and weight of the hosts. With regard to the males and females hosts, the results indicated that this is not an influential factor in parasitic level. The lenitic ?closed? environment (Ramada Paso Pond) evidenced the greatest ectoparasitic mean intensity and prevalence, and the spatial dispersion was either random and aggregated. Although, the lenitic ?open? environmental (Aeroclub Pond) showed the greatest parasitic number of individuals in an infrapopulation and the frequency distribution was predominantly overdispersed and fit well a negative binomial model.
