During fourteen months (July 1994 - August 1995) the
helminth parasites and the amphibian host Hyla
nana Boulenger, 1889, were studied in a semipermanent pond localized in a
subtropical area of northeastern Argentina. The main objective was to analyze
the spatial and temporal relationships between both parasites and host natural
population and their fluctuations. The sampling designed was compatible with
the parasites as well as the amphibian population. Forty-four tadpoles and
sixty-two post metamorphic individuals (juvenile and adults) of Hyla nana were collected. Three species
of larval infected tadpoles while postmetamorphic specimens harbored five larval and one adult trematode. Cestodes,
nematodes and acanthocephalan species (one larval species and one adult species
for each parasite class) also were registered and only for the postmetamorphic
host. The metacercariae Diplostomidae gen. sp. 1 had the highest prevalence,
mean intensity and abundance in both tadpoles and postmetamorphic amphibian,
suggesting that infection occurred during the tadpole life cycle. No
significant correlations were observed between the number of metacercariae
Diplostomidae gen. sp. 1 with tadpole body length and postmetamorphic host
specimens. The
