The R. tropici guaB mutant strain 899-10.T is unable to grow at high temperature and also to induce effective nodulation on common beans. Nodule cells are devoid of bacteria, blocked in the release from the infection thread. Complementation with the wild type guaB sequence restores both thermal tolerance and successful nodulation (Riccillo et al. 2002).
