Resumen:
• Combinatorial biosynthesis involves genetically engineering enzymes that are used to make novel, complex compounds as drug development candidates. The number of different compounds and the quantities that can be made using combinatorial strategies will determine the impact of this technology on the pharmaceutical industry. Advances in engineering multimodular enzymes, which act as assembly line-like catalysts, may someday make it possible to generate huge numbers of such compounds.
