Resumen:
This paper deals with Alcuin of York’s thinking and personality reflected in his letters. The first part is an analysis of the different types of Alcuin’s epistles: doctrinal, friendship, officials (according to his roles as an abbot, a functionary of the royal court, and an educator), and other authors’ letters. In the second part the A. considers the philosophical elements found in the Alcuin’s epistles, centered in three points: the philosophy definition, the concepts of essence, substance and nature, and aspects of his anthropology as the concept of the body as the animae carcer and the soul’s mutations.
