Resumen:
The purpose of the article is to analyze the consequences that an quake can leave within any schooling system. In this sense, we choose to analyze the earthquake which took place in February, 27 th 2010 in Chile, which lasted between 3 and 6 minutes ?depending on the area- and that had a magnitude of 8.8 on the moment magnitude scale, and ranks as the sixth largest earthquake to be recorded. In this sense our analysis will be focused on studying what happened with schools ?and schooling agents- during and after the shake, regarding to the damage caused to the institutions and the possibilities ?or not- to carry on with the academic year and calendar, and the inequalities caused by the earthquake. Furthermore we will study the containment role that schools acquire during and after the seismic activity and the new responsibilities of educational agents in terms of preventing and preparing students for future natural catastrophes and disasters. In addition we will research the new meanings of the ?security? concept that appears related to school buildings, and how that interfere in parents decision to which school send their kids to, in a prior highly competitive educational system.
