Resumen:
The variational principle is at the base of many of the quantum mechanics approximation methods. As a principle it is very general and each particular implementation can be precisely tuned according to the physical traits of the problem. This has allowed the development of many algorithms that are applied successfully, in particular to spectral problems such as the calculation of the ground state energy of many-body problems. More recently, the application of optimization methods that seek to minimize or maximize other cost functions, such as transmission fidelity, or the ""energy of a neural quantum state"". has received a lot of attention. Some of these problems can be treated using ""machine learning"" or Global Optimization techniques.
