This paper will address Francis Bacon’s account of chaos, creation, prelapsarian and postlapsarian nature. Firstly, it will show how the world order produced from chaotic active matter depended ultimately on God’s intervention. Secondly, it will analyze the ways in which nature was transformed by the Fall of Adam. Besides, the paper will try to trace the theological background of Bacon’s stance and will explore its consequences on the relation between science and religion.
