Resumen:
In order to be used as matrix in fiberglass reinforced composites and with the aim to combine the good mechanical properties and processability of epoxies with the low cost and flame resistance of phenolics, blends of both systems were made. The modification of the matrix with epoxy-amine system improves the interfacial resistance. The flame resistance of the phenolic resin decreases with the addition of epoxy-amine system as consequence of less content of aromatic rings in the matrix. However, surface modification of the fiber or the addition of epoxy produces higher efficiency of the transfer stress from the matrix to the fiber.
