Resumen:
The aim of this work was to obtain and to characterize carbon fiber-phenolic resin prepregs. Nanoclays were added to phenolic resin in order to evaluate their effect on the performance of the material.Resol type resin could be obtained with formaldehyde to phenol molar ratio equal to 1.3. The reaction was carried out under basic conditions, and its kinetics was investigated.It was possible to obtain phenolic resin-carbon fiber prepregs by vacuum molding. Prepregs had intermediate fiber volume content, near to 50%.The addition of 5% (w/w) of clay to the phenolic resin improved the prepregs stiffness and tack, so it was good for improving materials properties.
