Abstract.--The circadiana ctivityo f ChinstrapP enguins( Pygoscelaisn tarcticaa) t Isla MediaLuna (SouthS hetlandI slands,A ntarctica)w as registereda st he numbero f animalsc rossinga certain point on their route to and from the colony. A two-peak rhythm was found, witha clear distinction between dawn (going from the colony to the coast) and evening (comingback). Both patternsh ad a 24-h period perhapsd riven by an endogenoucsi rcadianc lock.This activity did not correlate with environmental variables such as light or temperature.
