Resumen:
Among several potential cell wall lytic enzymes, such as ƒÀ- -glucosidase, ƒÀ- -galactosidase, ƒÀ-N-acetyl- -glucosaminidase, ƒÀ-N-acetyl- -galactosaminidase, and ƒÀ- -N,NŒ-diacetylchitinase, Phaffia rhodozyma showed only ƒÀ- -glucosidase activity. MnCl2 increased the activity, but not the production of the enzyme. When the yeast was grown with 4.0 mM MnCl2, the cells were bigger and rounder than those obtained in its absence, suggesting a weakening of the cell wall. Protoplasts were obtained from these cells, using 0.3 M KCl as the osmotic stabilizer
