The city of Mendoza, like other urban centres faces severe air pollution problems. The effect of most concern is doubtless that on the urban residents? health. The most important air contaminants over Mendoza are total suspended particles, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and lead. In lesser concentration there are other contaminants such as sulphur dioxide, hydrocarbons and surface ozone. The main sources of pollution are public and private transport. Approximate mean annual emissions from these sources will be presented together with emission values from different monitoring stations
