Resumen:
The aim of this research was to determine morphometric parameters for male Mediterranean buffaloes, at different stages of life, raised under natural pasture conditions in Northern Corrientes, Argentina. We worked with buffaloes borned by artificial insemination, and raised at the ranchs. Buffaloes bulls where raised with their mothers until weaning and from then on they were kept under natural pasture conditions only. A total of 428 buffalo bulls, with ages of 7 months (W, weaning group), 12 months (G12), 18 months (G18), 24 months (G24), 30 months (G30) and 36 months or more (G36) were evaluated. Measured parameters were body weight (BW), scrotal circumference (SC), thoracic perimeter (TP), sacrum height (SH) and wither height (WH), and the average was from at W, 252 kg, 18,7 cm, 115,6; 114,9 and 161,5 repectively. For the G12 the results was 289,7 kg and SC 21 cm. The G18, showed 315,1 kg, 20,7 cm, 141,6; 120,4 and 141,75 respectively. The G24 obtains 426,9 kg, 28 cm, 162,9; 131 and 143,8 respectively and the G30, W, 425 kg, 28,5 cm, 130,5; 132,9 and 161,5 respectively. G36 showed 595,6 kg and 28,1 cm. More studies are needed in order to standardize the morphometry of male Mediterranean buffaloes in Northern Argentina.
