Resumen:
The aim of this work was to know the seroprevalence of Neospora caninum in buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) in five ranches of northeast Argentina. N. caninum is a protozoan responsible for reproductive losses in bovines around the World. Buffalo population is estimated on 100,000 heads, mainly in the provinces of northeast Argentina. Blood samples were collected from buffaloes from three ranches of Corrientes province and two ranches of Chaco province. A total 1,693 females from 2 to 20 years old were tested. Animals were grouped according to age (<4, 4-5, 6-7 and >8 years old). Sera were processed through indirect fluorescent antibody test for detection of N. caninum exposure. A positive titre of ¡Ý1:100 was considered as positive. From the total animals, 40.1% were positive to N. caninum. All the ranches had seropositive animals. More research is needed for clarifying the role of N. caninum as a cause of reproductive failure in buffaloes.
