Resumen:
Context: Systemic events resulting from mother-embryo relation at the peri-implantationperiod may result in specific changes to the protein composition of serum andthus provide a source of biomarkers for early detection of pregnancy. Aims: To test thishypothesis by comparing cow serum at the peri-implantation period to that fromcycling cows using two different quantitative proteomic approaches. Methods: Two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) and isobaric tags for relative andabsolutequantitation (8 plex iTRAQ). Keyresults:  These methods  yielded complementarydata yielding biomarker candidate proteins. Conclusions:Proteomic methods renderdifferent and complementary information that needs to be analyzed in orderto consider proteins as potential biomarkers.  Implications:  In order to characterize the proteome under specific conditions the useof complementary techniques is advisable. Candidate biomarkers of cow earlypregnancy as serotransferrin, ITIH4 and fibulin-1 were identified.
