Productivity of a trial of thirteen asparagus genotypes in their eighth year within the IV International Asparagus Cultivar Trial (ISHS)

Asparagus is an interesting productive diversification alternative in countries of the southern hemispherefor production in counter season. Since it has great genotype-environment interaction andis a perennial crop, to be incorporated into productive systems, it is necessary to carry out a properselection of the genotype to be grown. In order to evaluate the behaviour of thirteen hybrids ofgreen and purple asparagus in the stable productivity stage, a trial was started on 16/11/2011within the Fourth International Asparagus Cultivar Trial (ISHS), in the Experimental Unit, Facultadde Agronomía, UNCPBA in Azul, Argentina (36°48’lat.S-59°51’,long.W), evaluating: “Ítalo”; “Vittorio”;“Eros”; “Ercole”; “Giove”; “Franco”; “Chino”; “Early-California”; “UC-157”; “Patrón”; “NJ-1189”;“NJ-1123” and “NJ-1192”, with a density: 23,810 pl.ha-1; DBCA, with 4 repetitions, and area 1690 m2.Commercial productivity of top quality was studied (18/09/2019–12/11/2019), quantifying totaland commercial fresh production (PFBT and PFCT), in t.ha-1, obtained by two cutting lengths: 22 and17 cm (PFC-L and PFC-C), total number of commercial turions (NTCT), long and short (NTC-L-NTC-C);distribution of calibers (J: Jumbo; XL: Extra-Large; L: Large; M: Medium; S: Small and A: Asparagina);waste (DE: sprouted; MC: very short and OD: other defects), carrying out 27 harvests. Variance analysisANOVA-LSD test (P≥0,05) was performed. Total productivity was 8.40 t.ha-1 and commercial: 5.9t.ha-1 and in turions: 525,233 total and 281,000 commercial. In PFC-L: 3.42 t.ha-1 and PFC-C: 2.52t.ha-1; NTC-L:159900 and NTC-C: 120700; with a percentage of second quality and waste: 46.5 andaverage number of turions.pl-1: 10 g. In PFCT: Franco:7.7a; NJ-1192: 7.3ab; NJ-1123: 6.4abc, Giove:6.2abc; Ítalo: 6.1abcd; Eros: 5.9abcd; Vittorio: 6.9abcd t.ha-1 were observed, respectively. InNTCT:Giove: 340000; NJ-1123: 336000 and Franco: 316000 turions.ha-1. In general, genotypes Franco andNJ-1123 were promising due to their productivity.
