Resumen:
Primary or alkylated amines are important chemicals and intermediates. N-Alkylamines are used without further transformation as surface-active agents for the manufacturation of pharmaceutical compounds, polymers, textiles and others. One of the most widespread process used for the obtention of amines is the hydrogenation of nitriles (R-CN) with the assistance of heterogeneous catalysts based on metals (e.g. Pt, Ni, Co, Ru, Pd). The election of the metal determines the selectivity of the synthesis. In other words, the relation between the mono-, di- and trialkylamines at the end of the hydrogenation. Comprehension of the mechanism of reaction is fundamental for the rational design of new materials.
