Resumen:
This is the first of a series of reports on simulation studies of size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) experiments. The simulation studies have been conducted to investigate the magnitude of secondary fractionation effects on the estimation of the joint molecular weight—chemical composition distribution of linear copolymers. A simulation strategy has been devised through which feedback can be provided for the synthesis of standards that can validate the results from the simulation. This strategy will aid in the development of an SEC methodology for copolymer analysis. In this article, the scope of the simulation is presented together with the method developed for the generation of the joint molecular weight—chemical composition distributions. Subsequent anides deal with the simulation and verification of the SEC experiments.
