Resumen:
This study focuses on the modeling of As(III) oxidation to As(VI) by heterogeneous TiO2 photocatalysis using the NETmix mili-reactor. A thin-film of TiO2-P25 was uniformly immobilized on the frontal borosilicate glass slab (BGS) window or on the network of channels and chambers imprinted in the back stainless steel (SSS) slab. An array of 18 UVA LEDs was placed above the BSG window. These two configurations of the NETmix mili-photoreactor, differs mainly in their catalytic surface area and illumination mechanism. The first part of the study was dedicated to the radiation modelling. A complete solution of the radiation field inside the reactor was obtained; then the internal illumination efficiency was calculated for each reactor configuration. In the second part of the study, experimental tests on photocatalytic oxidation of As(III) to As(V) were performed for both systems using different amounts of catalyst coated in the reactors walls. A kinetic analysis was performed indicating the viability of the process.
