Resumen:
The heterogeneous Fenton process employ hydrogen peroxide and an iron container/carrier solid for the hydroxyl radical production in order to avoid complex post treatment processes. Most heterogeneous photo-Fenton catalysts also presents the advantages of solar applicability and temperature improvement. The employing of Zero Valent Iron (ZVI) presents, as compared to the iron oxide solids employment, the following advantages: much higher reaction rates of pollutant decomposition, under some operating conditions, the possibility of degrading contaminants by the reductive properties of ZVI and it’s relative low cost. In the present work the influence of various reaction variables on the degradation of 2-chlorophenol (2-CP) via heterogeneous photo-Fenton reaction using zero valent iron nanoparticles (ZVI) as a source of iron was studied, varying the pH, the catalyst loading and the level of irradiation. The results were compared with those obtained using goethite as a source of iron.
