Resumen:
Wildlife health is an increasingly important component of the conservation of wild species. With human-induced global change, including biodiversity and habitat loss and degradation, wildlife is constantly subject to stressors that place it at an escalating risk of disease. This chapter provides a review of available information on the parasitic, viral, and bacterial diseases of the guanaco in the Patagonian region. Scientific knowledge on the overall health and disease risks for wild guanacos is still limited, and significant gaps exist in information to promote their conservation. Health management measures for livestock stocks that share the environment with this species, together with continuous monitoring of the health of wild guanacos, will be essential for the successful conservation of Patagonia’s biodiversity.
