F2 is a fully cryogenic near-IR imager and multi-object spectrometer which is being prepared for commissioning at Gemini South. The first part of the talk reviews the origin and general characteristics of the instrument. The second part focuses in the primary science requirements and how these compare with the results of the initial laboratory, sky and engineering tests immediately after the arrival of the instrument to Gemini. The third and main part extends on how the instrument would likely be used during typical scenarios, taking into account the refurbishing work, new tests and therefore expected performance.
