Resumen:
Bones are hybrid organic/inorganic tissues with high mechanical strength to support loading and elastic deformation to resist failure under cyclic stress. When their functions need to be restored or replaced, metallic orthopedic implants are chosen due to their excellent mechanical properties and durability. However, the surface is often modified by adding bioactive ceramics, polymers and composites to increase corrosion resistance, biocompatibility and osseointegration. In this work, stainless steel wires were successfully coated with poly(ε-caprolactone) electrospun membranes loaded with bioglass nanoparticles. The nanofibrous structure mimics the extra-cellular matrix and the continuous porosity allows fluid and nutrients exchange, favoring regeneration. For the fabrication, the electrospinning device was set up with a rotational collector and controlled translational movement for the needle. A post-processing treatment was performed with peracetic acid and ethanol in order to turn the surface hydrophilic while sterilizing at the same time. Physicochemical, thermal and morphological characterizations were carried out
