Resumen:
Poly(e-caprolactone) (PCL) is an aliphatic polyester that has been subject of intensive research and development of bioresorbable polymeric formulations for use in orthopedic implants and drug delivery systems due to their biocompatibility and biodegradability properties as well as the retention of mechanical properties over an adequate period of time after implantation. In the last years, a growing interest in polymeric porous structures for the various biomedical applications has been shown. It is well known that the polymeric porous structures generally shown good incorporation the body and promote the overgrowth of the surrounding tissues inducing the regeneration of the replaced or reconstructed biological tissue. Recently, we have shown that iodine promote bulk polymerization of e-caprolactone (e-CL) under mild conditions, with moderate rate, high degree of conversion, high molecular weight and good stereoregularity. The aim of the present study was to design PCL microporous structures with bactericidal activity by using iodine bulk polymerization.
