Resumen:
In this work the mineralization of a commercial herbicide 2,4-D amine was studied using a laboratory reactor. The employed apparatus was a wellstirred tank photoreactor irradiated from the bottom. It was equipped with a mechanical stirrer, a thermometer and glass coils connected to a thermostatic bath. An experimental conversion of 90% of the commercial herbicide 2,4-D was achieved by the photo-Fenton process after a reaction time of 120 min, for an iron concentration of 10 ppm and a hydrogen peroxide to 2,4-D initial molar ratio of 50. Under these conditions, an almost complete consumption of hydrogen peroxide was also observed. Besides, the apparent and absolute quantum efficiencies of mineralization were evaluated for the photo-Fenton treatment of the commercial herbicide.
