Actividad diurética en E. serpens. La reacción Retro Riels-Alder como herramienta de identificación

Diuresis by E. serpens showed two principal components, an increase in the volume of urine (water secretion), and a net loss of solutes (i.e., electrolytes) in the urine. The isolation and chemical characterization of the compounds present in different endemic species of Euphorbia sp. showed the presence of oleanane-type triterpenoids compounds. Therefore, the triterpenoids are probably somewhat responsible for the diuretic effect of E. serpens Nevertheless, due to the low solubility of triterpenes in aqueous extracts, the alcohol mannitol would be primarily responsible for the diuretic activity in E. serpens infusions
