Optically driven mechanical softening in polymers containing azobenzene and alkyl chains

Epoxy linear polymers with azobenzene and alkyl sidegroups were prepared and their photoinduced opticalresponse was investigated. The azobenzene groupscontribute to light response while alkyl chains formstrong physical crosslinks by tail-to-tail associationsamong them, and exhibit the behavior of a physicalnetwork.
