A strategy for the controlled distribution of alkyl-coated nanoparticles in an epoxy network

The approach is based on the double role of a linear copolymer used both, as stabiliser of the NPs and soluble modifier of the epoxy system. The strategy was used to disperse common dodecylamine and dodecanethiol stabilised gold nanoparticles in an epoxy network. A linear copolymer with pendant dodecyl chains was obtained by bulk polymerization of dodecylamine and a commercial diepoxy monomer based on diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DER332, Dow).
