In this work, we studied a system in which a liquid crystal is replaced for a crystalline solid in order to obtain a less expensive and more accessible thermoreversible material. Polystyrene (PS) and diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA)/meta-xilylenediamine (MXDA) were selected as thermoplastic modifier and thermoset precursors respectively due to their refractive indices matching. The component responsible of the first order transition (crystalline solid) must have a similar refractive index in the isotropic state, and Biphenyl (BP) fulfills this requirement.
