Resumen:
The aim of the present work was to correlate the antibody reactivity to Yersinia antigens in synovial liquids (SL) of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or spondyloarthropathies (SpA) with anti-collagen type I and II  antibodies. Total immunoglobulins (IgG+IgA+IgM) and IgA against Y. enterocolitica O:8 were investigated by ELISA. We used lipopolysaccharide (LPS), culture supernatant proteins (SN), and the whole bacteria disrupted by sonication (SO) as antigens. Additionally,  antibodies to type I and II collagen were determined. We found a significant correlation between total immunoglobulins to Yersinia and to type I collagen (Spearman r = 0.81; 95% CI 0.6 to 0.9; p< 0.0001). Moreover, levels of IgA antibodies against Yersinia antigens also correlated with anti-type I collagen antibodies (Spearman r = 0.6; 95% CI 0.2 to 0.8; p< 0.002). In contrast, the correlation was not significant between anti-type II collagen and anti-bacterial antibodies (Spearman r = 0.3; 95% CI –0.14 to 0.6; p= 0.2). We concluded that there is different reactivity to articular collagen in patients with Yersinia antibodies.
