Resumen:
This work aimed to determine the degree of phenotypic plasticity offunctional and structural characteristics of Eucalyptusglobulus wood in seedlings and adult trees from Odiel and Piedras clones, growing in Ourense (Spain). It was performed using seedlings from both clones(n=6 per clone) to assess the functional response of wood by VC curves withPneumatic method. The curves parameters (slope (a), P50, P12 and P88) were obtained by adjusting themto Pammenter Model (1998) using Infostat (Tukey test, α=0.05). Not significantdifferences between clones were obtained. Odiel and Piedras showed an a=3.74 ± 0.6 and 5.07 ± 0.6 and P50= -1.88 ± 0.16 and -1.87 ± 0.16,respectively. Comparing functional parameters of wood in different plant type(seedlings vs. branches of adult trees of same clones), no significantdifferences were observed between clones and plant type in a. P50 showed significant interaction between clone and plant type (P≤ 0.05).While in Piedras P50 was similar between plant type,Odiel showed a significantly lower P50 in seedlings (-1.88 ± 0.16)compared to adults (-1.2 ± 0.18). Also, adult Piedras had a significantly lowerP50 (-1.87 ± 0.16) compared to Odiel. P88 and P12 showed a similar trend to P50. 25 cm stem samples of seedlings of both clones, together with adult?sbranches of same size and clones, were analyzed in a NIRS equipment at INRA Valde Loire. The spectra were then explored by PCA. The results showed significantdifferences between radial vs. axial face and between adult branches comparedto seedlings (P≤0.05). Likewise, significant differences between clones wereobserved in axial face of seedlings (P≤0.05) but no in those of the radialface. In adult branches, significant differences between clones were found inradial face, albeit the spectra of the axial face did not differ (P≤0.05)
