Mechanical and Fracture Evaluation of Polyolefin Films Chemically Modified With Acrylic Acid as Grafting Agent.

The aim of this work is the evaluation of the effect of surface graft co-polymerisation with acrylic acid on the bulk mechanical properties of commercial PP films. High levels of grafting were obtained on PP surface after a short reaction time at room temperature with a relatively simple method. Mechanical evaluation revealed that such surface modification affects overall behavior of PP films. Results demonstrated that this variation depends on loading rate and stress state. Further investigation is needed in order to elucidate this dependence.
