Resumen:
La Florida (33¢X07¡¦S-66¢X02¡¦W) is an important water reservoir of the San Luis province. Recently, we demonstrated organochlorine compounds (OC) in this water body. Several authors reported that OC concentration is magnified along the food chain; therefore fish-eating birds may be one of the most affected groups. The aim of this study was to survey OC pesticide residues in bird species of La Florida. Determinations were performed in adipose tissue of 2 aquatic fish-eating species, Podiceps major (Pm) and Phalacrocorax olivaceus (Po) and, in a terrestrial omnivorous species, Pitangus sulphuratus (Ps). In addition, we measured the concentration of OC in Pm eggs. OC compounds (a?z-, b-, g-, d-?nBCH, heptachlor, heptachlor epoxy, endosulphan, metoxychlor, DDT, DDD, DDE, aldrin, dieldrin, endrin, cis- and trans-chlordanes) were assayed and the presence of all but DDT was apparent. Strict fish-eating birds (i.e. Pm and Po) exhibited similar OC levels compared to Ps (P
