Resumen:
The Corn stunt spiroplasma (CSS) and Mal de Río Cuarto virus (MRCV) are important corn  diseases that are spread in different productive regions of the Argentina. In this study the presence of these diseases was evaluated in temperate and subtropical regions, during the 2003/04 and 2004/05 crop season, and the incidence of CSS in commercial hybrids of tropical germplasm during 2004/05 in Tucumán. To measure the incidence in each evaluated plot, 50 random samples per lot were collected, and simultaneously plants with symptoms of these diseases were collected to determine the presence of pathogens. The samples were evaluated by serology using DAS-ELISA test. The CSS was detected during the 2003/04 crop season in all provinces analyzed and in 64.7% of the prospected locations. In Tucumán during 2004/05 crop season, 0 to 40% incidences values were registered. An better behavior of one hybrid was observed in both locations. The MRCV was detected in all provinces analyzed of temperate areas and in high valleys of the NOA region. These preliminary results demonstrate that both diseases are present in corn productive areas of Argentina, and corroborate the need of continue these studies to detect their presence and incidence in other regions.
