Resumen:
Maize rayado fino virus was detected in eight provinces in Argentina (Salta, Tucumán, Chaco, Santa Fe, Córdoba, San Luis, Buenos Aires and La Pampa) during the last three crop seasons. Symptomatic plants were analyzed with serological and electron microscopy techniques. The virus was first identified in the template production area of the country. The infected samples from the subtropical area manifested the typical and La Pampa), being identified for the first time the Maize rayado fino virus in the provinces of Chaco, Santa Fé, Córdoba symptoms, while the samples from the template area revealed mild or no symptoms. By means of symptomatology, serology and electron microscopy the virus was detected on maize cultivars of 5 locations of the subtropical area (provinces of Tucumán, Chaco, Buenos Aires and Santa Fe), and in 4 locations of the template area (provincies of Córdoba, San Luis, Buenos Aires, San Luis, Buenos Aires and La Pampa. Is evident the need of the frequent monitoring, periodic of the viral diseases, mainly the emerging ones transmitted by vectores.
