Resumen:
Research to identify management practices to reduce negative effects of CSS in Argentina, by means of protection with insecticide applied to seed, and the election of maize germplasm of good behavior to disease was developed. The hibrids for the assay were DK 842 and DK 834, the first one catalogued as highly susceptible to CSS and the second one of mildly susceptibility, and the cv. Pop Zélia, susceptible control. The insecticide Clothianidin eliminated all the CSS vector insects in contact with plants which seeds were treated, being not detected infected plants neither by sintomatology nor by serology at the end of the assay. In no insecticide treatments, the hibrid DK 834 showed less severe symptoms and a lower pathogen concentration. In experimental conditions, Clothianidin efficiency to control Dalbulus maidis was confirmed in corn seed treatments, as well as the usage of recommended germplasm, which should be also verified at field conditions in different environments.
