Resumen:
The synergy between Ir and Re in the selective transformation of erythritol (ERY) by C-O hydrogenolysisreactions using catalysts supported on TiO2 was studied. Two monometallic Ir and Re catalysts and fivebimetallic catalysts with different Re/Ir molar ratios (0.5, 1 and 2) were prepared by incipient wetnessimpregnation and physicochemical properties were determined by: ICP, DRX, TPR and CO chemisorption.The catalytic results showed that all the solids were active on ERY hydrogenolysis and specifically, bimetalliccatalysts promoted the C-O bond scission route. The monometallic Ir catalyst was active to isomerization andbutane and methane formation (gas phase), while bimetallic catalysts with a high content of Re (Re/Ir=2 molarratio) favored the competitive dehydration route. The effect of Ir and Re content on the loss of the first OHgroup of ERY was analyzed and two possible mechanisms were proposed. The loss of a secondary OH wasmore favored than that of a terminal OH over the monometallic Ir catalyst, while the breaking of the C-O bondof the terminal OH group displayed a maximum for Re/Ir ratios=0.5 and 1.
